About this Blog
Hello, and Welcome. I’m Maurita Plouff, and I write about cooking and preserving the local harvest in Southeast Michigan. Any recipe you find here is something I have cooked myself, and enjoyed, and think you might like too. I invite you to try them, and leave comments.
About me. I’m a good home cook and a Certified Master Preserver. I owned and operated Madame the Chef Personal Chef Service for 7 years, making my customers (and myself) very happy. Just now I’m cooking for my family and friends.
Where the food comes from. I’ve been a member of various CSAs over the years, most recently City Commons CSA in Detroit. For the 2016 growing season, though, my schedule is going to be a bit erratic, what with family travel plans, so I’ll be shopping at the local farmers market, and sometimes at the farms themselves. I try to use or preserve all the food I bring home from the farm, which is sometimes a challenge. You’ll be able to tell what’s in season around me by what I post. I am also a member of 37 Cooks, a fine group of cooks who inspire and challenge each other to new heights of cooking creativity.
Where I get the recipes. Oh, goodness, where not? Sometimes it’s from a book or a newspaper clipping or a website, and I will give proper attribution. Sometimes it’s an old family favorite. More often than not it’s something I’ve pulled together from reading several sources, or just plain invented. Think of these recipes as being from my personal recipe binder – I’m sharing with you what we like to eat. We try to eat real food, not processed stuff. We believe in a varied, healthy diet, using real butter, real cream, eggs, lots of green vegetables, and protein from meat, fish, beans, and cheese.
About sponsorship (disclosure). As I mentioned above, I also contribute to the blog 37 Cooks – which means that sometimes one of their fine sponsors will send a product to me, and challenge me to do something creative with it. As of 2014, I also work with various brands who may send me review samples. This means that from time to time I am sent some of their equipment to use (and to keep.) The company asks that I use the tools, blog about what I’ve done, and give my honest opinion about their products.
While I am delighted to participate with these sponsors, please understand that the recipes, my opinions, and my ratings are entirely my own, and are never dictated to me.
