Raspberry Chocolate Smoothie

I confess it: I’ve developed a smoothie habit. I have found it’s more pleasant to drink a fruity yogurt concoction than it is for me to eat that same yogurt and fruit in a bowl. I’ve learned that commercial smoothies are far, far too sweet for me, or are made with strange ingredients, or are simply too expensive. Let me tell you about my raspberry chocolate smoothie: not too sweet, just right.

Over the past few months, I created a standard smoothie recipe for my household. It contains Greek yogurt, frozen fruit, and a bit of milk to adjust the texture. If there’s any additional sweetening, I use a bit of jam (I always have homemade jam around!).

From that household standard smoothie, it was easy (and fun!) to create something just for #Chocoberfest: a raspberry chocolate smoothie. We’ve all become very fond of it – just a little cocoa powder goes a long way.

A raspberry chocolate smoothie is perfect for chocolate lovers. It’s full of healthful ingredients: frozen unsweetened berries, Greek yogurt, a bit of milk, a teaspoon of cocoa powder, and – if you really must have a sweeter result – a spoonful of jam.

Put all the ingredients in your blender container. I like to use frozen IQF berries, the kind that are loose in a big freezer bag, for simple convenience. You may want to adjust the amount of milk. More milk will produce a thinner smoothie, and less will make a thicker one.

Blend it all together. Check for taste and consistency: too thick? Add milk. Do you want more chocolate flavor: add a bit more cocoa powder. Not sweet enough? Dollop in a spoonful of jam.

After your adjustments, blend again, then pour the smoothie into a large glass, stick in a straw, and indulge.
